Paesaggi Atemporali 2021

During an exploratory trip to the Piana di Castelluccio, while travelling along the long road that cuts it in two, I found myself in a state of suspension, wrapped in a thick fog that, as it lifted, revealed the place I was in as another landscape altogether. A place of pure white, like a virgin landscape, where the muffled silence underscored the vastness of what I was looking at. When I contemplate a landscape, I feel a strong need to be silent and immerse myself in the soul of the place. This is why this photographic series sets out to tell of a new dimension of space and time, in which to let go gently and be freed from the human condition. For me, this is the new contemporary desire: the search for images that express the need to contemplate the landscape again, to live in it without taking possession of it, to listen to its sounds and observe its forms. We need a spiritual dimension that moves us emotionally, so that we can imagine how we are bound to what surrounds us; to widen the scope of our inquiry to include the impulses we have hidden, and to reclaim the sublime. In this way the contemporary landscape takes on a new meaning: neither the pastoral, idyllic landscape of the past nor the aggressively artificial modern one, but a timeless landscape, the symbol of a new tendency that the soul needs. It is in these photographs that I found the synthesis of these reflections: a blend of love for formalism, thoughts about the future, and spiritual and visual journeys.
