Danilo Currò (Messina, 1993) is a photographer and filmmaker. He studied painting from 2009 and soon turned to photography and film, graduating in Film and Media Studies (DAMS) from the University of Messina.
In 2015 he created Black Lips, a series of portraits of young migrants who reached Sicily by sea. The project won La Stampa’s Sunday Photographers award for the Photolux Biennale and was exhibited at Palazzo Pucci, Florence. The following year he explored the theme further with the documentary Sunday, selected at several festivals, which tells the story of a young Nigerian man who reached Sicily after crossing the desert.
In 2016 he moved to Rome, where he entered the film world, photographing actors and actresses of the new generation. This dialogue led to Puro (2021), made with Fabrique du Cinéma: a work between photography and cinema on sensory reactions through water.
Alongside this, from 2020, he turned his gaze to landscape. This gave rise to La Componente Magica (2024), a finalist for Terna’s Driving Energy Award and presented at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. The project was also shown in the group exhibition Solo che amore ti colpisca, curated by Helga Marsala (Museo Riso, Real Albergo dei Poveri, Palermo), and in other exhibitions in Florence and Reggio Emilia.
He received scholarships from Fondazione Studio Marangoni (2023) and Perimetro (2024). His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Corriere della Sera, Style Magazine, La Stampa, Fabrique du Cinéma and Perimetro.
He lives and works between Messina and Rome.
