Born in Messina in 1993, Danilo Currò began studying painting in 2009 and, a few years later, turned to photography and film.

In 2015 Currò created Black Lips, a photographic project on young migrants who reached Sicily by sea. The project won La Stampa’s Sunday Photographers award for the Photolux Biennale and was exhibited at Palazzo Pucci in Florence.

In 2016 Currò explored the theme further with “Sunday”, a documentary about the life of a young Nigerian man who reached Sicily after a long journey across the desert. That same year brought a one-way move to Rome and the start of work in the film world, photographing actresses and actors of the new generation. In 2021, in collaboration with Fabrique du Cinema, Currò created “Puro”, a crossover between photography and cinema that explores sensory reactions through the element of water.

In 2020 came the need to change course, to engage with landscape and to build stories. This led to the project “La Componente Magica” (2024), a finalist for Terna’s Driving Energy Award, shown in group exhibitions at Museo Riso, Palazzo delle Esposizioni and FSM Gallery.

In 2023 Currò received a scholarship from Fondazione Studio Marangoni, followed the next year by one from Perimetro.

Currò’s photographs have been published in Rolling Stone, Corriere della Sera, Style Magazine, La Stampa, Fabrique du Cinema, Perimetro and others.

Currò lives between Messina and Rome, working in photography and film.
